Vermont State Police Troopers ID’d in Bristol Shooting

The names of the two Vermont State Police troopers involved in a Bristol shooting have been released.

Police say troopers Robert Helm and Matthew Hood fired their service rifles Tuesday night and hit 28-year-old Greg West multiple times. West was hospitalized in critical condition.

Both troopers are assigned to the New Haven Barracks.

Bristol police Officer Jori Fairbanks was also at the scene but didn’t fire her weapon. The shooting occurred Tuesday.

Police say West was shot after ignoring commands to drop the shotgun.

West hasn’t been charged with a crime.
